Any experts here? ;-)
What I would like to know is how generate greater site traffic without pimping my site or spending money? I want to engage the internet free energy machine . . .
Site is not mainstream in subject matter and is mostly an educational resource, however also I advertise my profession and sell some artwork through café press.
Site ave stats: 50 unique visitors a day and 300 hits (6 weeks worth of stats as my stat meter is only 6 weeks old).
All ideas welcome.

Re: Generating Site Traffic
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 3:55 PMFind related sites and ask them to add a link to your site. You may have to reciprocate, but that's not so bad most of the time. That'll also help with the rank that your site gets with search engines.

Re: Generating Site Traffic
Sat, August 20, 2005 - 9:27 AMThat is a tall order and it is almost impossible to get hits/ visitors in a big way w/ out money or a large effort over a short period of time. Since money is off the table, get creative with as many exposure opportunities as possible.
What are the goals for the sight? What are your intentions? What do you want this sight to be in 5 years? Money making? Philanthropic?
Can you get a gig writing a column in a local paper about your expertise? Perhaps you can volunteer to teach a class at your local "Y" about this knowledge you have? Are you hooked up w/ every available tool to drive traffic your way? Note: I have many traffic resources listed on my site for your perusal.
Consider the power of a signature line on all of your outbound e-mail messages. Put your web address on everything you generate (IE: business cards, letterhead, etc.). If you are small ... you must have niche appeal, not a major demographic appeal.
Remember too that it takes money to make money. Contrary to popular belief, this concept is even harder to achieve online. You will get back only what you put out in money &/ or effort. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Re: Generating Site Traffic
Sun, August 28, 2005 - 1:02 PMEmail Newsletters are good. They can be done on the cheap, and so long as you're sending out something informative, people will click through or forward it on to others.
Don't underestimate the power of forums. If you are involved in other site's forums that are on the same subject as you site. Add a link to your site in you signature for your user cp, and post tactfully in on topic threads linking to your site. Done the right way, you won't be "pimping" your site.

Re: Generating Site Traffic
Thu, September 1, 2005 - 12:38 PMnot true.
I receive dozens of newsletters I subscribed to because they were informative.
I got overwhelmed and at the end of each month I trow away most of the stuff
It is true that if you do a GOOD newsletter, an outstanding one, people will read and forward. But this takes a lot of work.
I agree on the rest
