Sun, October 17, 2004 - 6:46 PMMarket research is dead.
IT only represents a snapshot of what is relevant at that time. As I see it, Blogpulse and technorati are the way to go. Find out what is on the lips of millions of users through the tracking of Consumer Generated Media -

Mon, October 18, 2004 - 3:23 AMI'm new to the industry I work in (Mobile phones) and I have to do a lot of market research and I tend to agree with you that the information I read online is being quickly outdated with what I hear people talking about at the lunchtable, so to speak.
Thanks for the the mention of blopulse & technorati... i'll check those out. -

Re: Market Research
Tue, November 30, 2004 - 10:55 AMI doubt market research is actually dead. But, secondary research becomes obsolete too fast these days. For larger companies who can afford it, primary research is tops. Nothing beats getting first hand data to formulate a sound strategy.

Re: Market Research
Sat, February 19, 2005 - 6:56 PMIf that isn't the silliest. Market research is dead. Bullsh....
You have to do market research to find out if this is the right place to advertise. The blogosphere is great for some types of products but lousy for others - try looking for washers and dryers, Cars, etc. and don't look to the bloggers, its a boring topic better dealt with by sites that do factual comparisons, etc.
You are making a logical fallacy, generalizing from a specific. for SOME things doing your marketing research in the blogosphere may be appropriate but not for most things.
and that is market research. -

Re: Market Research
Mon, October 16, 2006 - 2:53 AMI agree with Howard that often ony big companies can afford really good research from professionals. That said, any insight is better than no insight, right?
Market research's major challenge for the next five to ten years is to make quality service available to every business, no matter how small. I suspect automation of processes, electronic means of contacting people and well-designed one-size-fits-all products will play a part. Am interested to hear other people's views on the future of the industry.
The evidence is against the "death" of market research. The industry shows healthy growth over past decades that looks set to continue. And it's diversifying - even as people use more and more ways to share opinions, researchers look at more ways to gather opinions.
It's not always as fast as it could be, which I would like to see change. However, as someone who used to research new technologies, customer awareness always takes longer to spread than you might think. -
