I'm looking for something web-based, inexpensive, reliable and user friendly. HTML enabled would be nice, other than that, I don't need anything fancy.
Any suggestions are welcome and much appreciated.

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Mon, August 2, 2004 - 1:31 AMwww.topica.com/
they seem pretty good. I have never used them- however I know people who worked with them about 3 years ago
I have others that are more enterprise related- but I think that may be a bit more than you need

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Tue, August 3, 2004 - 10:10 AMI have experience on:
www.htmail.com/
They are UK based but reach world wide audience. Good payment methods and I got good, actual feedback from the target audience. That was surprising...
People on their lists are paid to read the mails, so that makes them bit on guard, but for me that was off set by the good feedback.

Thanks for the recommendations! -

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Thu, August 12, 2004 - 2:30 AMMaybe I should clarify that htmail is more about advertising than providing automated email marketing tools or services.

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Tue, November 30, 2004 - 11:03 AMSites like Topica are more about getting you into the mix of their network. Not truly an email marketing service, though they do provide some useful tools. But, you still have to spread the word and recruit subscribers to your list.
Sending the message and maintaining your list is the easy part. We host with www.macdock.com and pay $5/month extra for mailing list that handles opt-in subscriptions, bounces, delivery failures, etc. and allows us to send either plain text or HTML formatted messages.
The hard part is getting subscribers. That is the reeeeally hard part.
Most email marketing companies do offer tools for tracking click-thrus and conversion rates. But, if you just want the basics, it is not worth paying for.
Did I mention that getting subscribers is the hard part?

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Tue, November 30, 2004 - 6:23 PMI actually posted info on this subject just two messages down - VerticalResponse.
www.verticalresponse.com/prod/info.html
To respond to all the different issues raised here:
There are no monthly fees, no sign-up fees, no contracts, no networks to join, no ad serving. No B.S. basically. It's email - and you only pay for what you mail. That's it!
You can't buy any lists from VR, but there is a free opt-in form to collect names on your website. All unsubscribes and bounces are handled for you. Reports include open and clickthrough rates, and you can even compare campaigns. No extra fees for any of this! Why should there be?
The best thing I can suggest is go to our webpage, sign-up for a FREE account, and play with it. Send yourself a test email or an actual mailed postcard. If you like it, then create some emails and pay for only what you plan to mail (you can even get a quote first). If you don't like it, try someone else.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Sun, January 2, 2005 - 7:14 PMYES! www.eSponse.com
The author is a friend. A number of my clients and I use it religiously. Once a template is created and locked, super easy to update content.
Program entirely web-based. Import excel lists of contacts.
Sends email as multi-part forms. If someone can't get html email, they get a link to a web page that looks like the html email - and that was automatically created from the html email.
Awesome program. Author/founder Tom Erickson a great guy.

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Fri, May 13, 2005 - 11:41 AMI started using constant contact for my list of 1800 plus two months ago. Prior to this I was using the open source tool my host provided, 'mailman.' That sucked. Amature hour. It worked for a while I guess, lots of complaints from users that they weren't getting the newsletter. Those went away.
CC offers some cool statistics info too. I know exactly what links people are clicking on in the newsletter. (i'm sure a lot of sites offer stats.)
The web interface for creating newsletters at CC def. needs work, but they have a ton of partnerships with ISPs to help get your email delivered. (which is pretty important.)
Also, it could be cheaper. I'll still probably sign a 1 month agreement with them.

Re: Any suggestions for email marketing companies?
Wed, June 15, 2005 - 12:08 AMEnableMail is very cool. Here are a few others, in no particular order of preference:
Exact Target, Responsys, Eloqua, Vertical Response, Got Marketing all also offer hosted solutions. Like EnableMail, these are not mailing list / spam tools, they are serious e-marketing companies - they handle bounces, suppression, deliverability issues, tracking of sent / open / clickthoughs, most have bonded-sender programs, offer phone support, some offer consulting services, and all will kick you off their system if you are not CAN-SPAM compliant. (which is a really good thing)
If you're looking for a budge solution though, these are not the companies to look at. They aren't cheap but you do get what you pay for, specially if you're going for the open source / DIY approach...
And yes, I agree that the hardest part is getting subscribers... It's always a bit of a chicken and egg problem, isn't it? How do I generate interest if I can't contact them? :)
Mis dos centavos!
